The DFU bootloader identifies itself as a DFU class device, and also gives the PC a Vendor ID (VID) and Product ID (PID). The PC then looks through it's list of drivers to find one which claims to support that VID and PID.
Hi to all!!!!! I am having the strange problem, after so many effort, I am able to program at90usb162 using ISP, ...and now moving on...as my application is usb interface I have to make sure that my pc recognize at90usb162...now carefully read what happened....
I made connections for USB programming..5V congfiguration host powered...after making all connection when I connected my chip to pc for the first time...it worked I mean my pc gave message of 'found new hardware and it recognize at90usb162 dfu and it asked me for driver' after installing driver from atmel/flip...it showed successfully installed..then I load a program once using flip also...but main point is after I reconnect my chip to pc second time,it said 'Usb device does not recognize and it is malfunctioning' this message comes everytime...my device manager shows 'Unknown device' and does not install driver again.... Importantly , when I connected my chip to different pc , same thing happen as mentioned above..means it recognize first time and then it never recognize...
I will continue the Mac OS testing further and report issues, but I am sorry to report that the App 1.1 and firmwares 0.47 and 0.48 barely qualify as alpha software on Mac OS. We can continue the discussion in Lots of issues with encrypted storage (and password safe) on Mac - where it’s more appropriate.
Now the Atmel DFU driver should be installed and your Device Manager should look like this: This software was made possible thanks to. Atmel for putting their DFU driver in the public domain.
Dfu-programmer is an implementation of the Device Firmware Upgrade class USB driver that enables firmware upgrades for various USB enabled (with the correct bootloader) Atmel chips.
My chip is working fine and I have no problem using ISP... But I need USB....please help me...

When I try to upgrade my mEDBG firmware, the application restarts the board into DFU mode, but Windows doesn't load the ATm32U4DFU driver.

I looked in my Atmel Studio folder for the driver, but I don't see any inf files for anything other than the Jungo stuff, which I gather isn't the right driver for this device.
I tried downloading driver-atmel-installer-x64-7.0.305.msi and driver-atmel-bundle-7.0.666.exe and AtmelStudioUSB-7.0.31.exe, and driver-libusb0-installer-x64-7.0.305.msi and none of them work -- the exe files fail and rollback, and the MSI files either appear to do nothing, or they produce the error message 'The specified account already exists'
